Renowned comedian Sunil Pal, famous for his comedic prowess during his prime, has recently voiced his discontent with stand-up comedian and Bigg Boss 17 winner, Munawar Faruqui. In a recent interview, Pal expressed his dissatisfaction with Faruqui’s style of comedy.
Sunil Pal has recently garnered attention for his controversial remarks on social media. In an interview with Times Now/Telly Talk India, he discussed the contemporary style of comedy, using Munawar Faruqui as an example. Pal went as far as to label Munawar a “kalank” (stigma) to the comedy industry.
Pal elaborated, saying, “Yeh log kalank hai. Kis angle se inhe main artiste kahu” (They are a stigma. From which angle do I call them artists?). He contrasted Faruqui’s work with that of comedy legends like Umar Shaikh, Johnny Lever, K K Naikar, and Moin Akhtar. He also praised Kapil Sharma’s earlier comedic work.
Pal expressed strong disapproval of the Bigg Boss 17 winner’s comedy, stating, “If you are good, I would appreciate it and become your fan.” Furthermore, he criticized not just Munawar but also his audience, suggesting that such stand-up comedians might be under the influence when performing. “In logo ne janta ko murkh bana rakha hai” (They have turned the audience into fools), he remarked. He concluded by stating that current comedians are promoting a toxic culture, which he believes is not true comedy. “Kalakar lakhon mien ek hi paida hota hai. Baki sab crowd hai” (An artist is born only once; everyone else is part of the crowd), Pal asserted.
Previously, Sunil Pal criticized The Kapil Sharma Show’s Sunil Grover for dressing up as a woman and performing what he termed as “cheap comedy.” Despite his critiques, Pal himself remains a respected veteran comedian, known for winning hearts on The Great Indian Laughter Challenge and acting in Bollywood films like “Bombay to Goa,” which featured the late Raju Srivastav.
On a personal note, Sunil Pal is married to Sarita Sunil Pal and has two sons, Saral and Prabal.
