THE AUTHOR’S LOVE!!!
Chapter 1 ~The author
“Five minutes more. I’m already on my way!” I yelled on the phone. Urgghh!! I can’t believe I’m late! All thanks to my alarm, that decided not to bother waking me up this morning, and the end result I was late!
“Yes, I’ll be there in five minutes.” I replied to my friend who was pestering me about what’s taking me so long. I had a day out planned with some of my friends, who I mostly work with, at my office. After having a long and tiring week, we needed this refreshing weekend. Well, what’s more refreshing than a gang of girls going shopping.
So, that was what we planned. Shopping! And a movie if we were done with shopping early, though I highly doubt it! But what I was really looking forward to was, to spend the evening with my mom and dad. We have not had one in a long time, just because they didn’t have time, which was the common excuse I’ve been hearing for as long as I remember.
I turned on the radio to distract myself from those memories which would hurt me, but all that was playing on the radio was lovey-dovey songs. Of course, what else would play! It’s not that I hate love songs or something, but it just makes everything seem so unrealistic. I turned off the radio, feeling the silence much better.
I pulled off into the parking lot, and went inside the mall. The place was too crowded for my liking. I managed to make my way, through the tough crowd, straight to the food court, where I knew the girls would be waiting. I spotted them sitting in one of the farthest corners, and gossiping about I don’t know what.
I made my way to them, and pulled back a chair for myself, and settled down greeting them, and apologized for being late, “So, what are the plans for today?” I asked them, even when I know what the plans were.
“Well, there’s a sale going on here, and I’m pretty much excited about a whole lot of shopping!” Radhika chirped. Radhika and her love for shopping, she’d never change!!! Radhika was much of a bubbly girl, with all smiles.
“And I need cosmetics and accessories,” Preethi stated. I should’ve seen that coming. This girl, Preethi is a beauty queen. She knew how well to match her outfits, and what accessories go well with a particular outfit.
“But let me eat my share of food for now. Then we can decide about what you are going to buy.” Nisha complained, while we rolled our eyes. Completely foodie!!!
“No one’s going anywhere Nisha, until you are done.” I said, pointing to the plate in front of her. She gave us all a sheepish smile.
“Girls, Listen!! I’ve a super cool news for you!” Sanjana yelled all of a sudden, out of nowhere, making me jump. Uh-oh, I almost forgot she was here. It was not my fault she was busy scrolling through her phone, when we were having a conversation.
“Anyway, what’s that?” I asked her, seeing that she was jumping up and down in excitement. This girl is crazy!
“Well, Swara may be you aren’t going to be impressed by this topic, but I’m sure the others would get excited just as much as I’m right now!” she hesitated.
I frowned at her words, “And what’s that?”
“Okay, so, Varun Kapoor’s last novel was rated among the best sellers of the decade. And it is rumored that he is planning on starting a new book!” she whooped up in joy. Ugghh!! Not again! She was right, I hate this topic.
“Aaaahhhhh…” All the girls started yelling in excitement, including Nisha, who practically stopped eating, and joined them. I looked around to find everyone around us, staring back at us as if we are crazy. Well, maybe these girls are! I still don’t understand what’s so exciting in this news.
“Shh! Control girls! Everyone’s looking at us.” I tried to silence them. But, looks like no one is in a mood to listen to me.
“Did you even listen to what she said? How do you expect us to keep calm, when someone talks about The Varun Kapoor?” Radhika started hyperventilating. I rolled my eyes at her words. God! These girls are over reacting. They don’t even know this Varun Kapoor guy, yet they are crazy about him.
“Swara, we still don’t understand why you don’t like him, when you don’t know him?” Preethi asked.
“Exactly! I don’t understand why you girls like him, when you don’t know him, and besides, you don’t even know how he looks!!” I stated.
“Swara, we like him for his books! You know how well he writes? Just give his books one try, and I’m sure you’d fall in love with him too!” Radhika justified.
“C’mon Radhika, you know I hate these so called sappy sappy, lovey-dovey novels! They are just not my types. All they portray is the happily after thing, which never happens in reality. There’s no happy ending in real life, atleast I’ve not seen any such perfect end to any love story in reality.” I sighed, thinking about the fact that I don’t believe in love.
“But Swara, Varun Kapoor’s novels are nowhere to what you are expecting them to be. They don’t have that lovey-dovey stuff.” Preethi suggested.
“Sorry guys, but I’m in no mood to listen to how and what Varun Kapoor writes. I’ll go grab something for me to eat, when you guys talk about and adore that so called Varun Kapoor and his books.” I guess I was being rude, but that’s what I’ve seen in real life, especially my parents. I mumbled a ‘sorry’ before getting up to leave the place.
I ignored the strange looks my friends were giving me. They still don’t know why I was being such a prick, but honestly I don’t intend to tell them either.
What I don’t get is, why do I keep listening to this Varun Kapoor’s name every day from someone or the other? If not at office, then I’ve Ragini on phone blabbering about him. Apparently, this guy was some great romance novelist whose books are one of the best sellers. It’s not that I hate this guy or something, but I just don’t believe in love, especially the kind portrayed in books. Those books just raise the expectations of people, which finally come down crashing when reality hits us that no guy would ever exist in real life as shown in those sappy novels.
I was walking to the counter, so lost in my thoughts, that I didn’t notice the person coming in front, and the end result, I bumped into him. I closed my eyes, anticipating a fall, but it surprised me, that I didn’t hit the ground, and I felt two hands on my waist.
I slowly opened my eyes to find a pair of deep brown eyes staring back at me. I looked back into his eyes for a moment, when I realized our position. He was holding me by my waist, and I was holding him by his shoulders, and our faces were a few inches apart. What surprised me was that neither of us was willing to let go.
“Umm…Excuse me…” I said, not knowing what else to say. He composed himself, and helped me stand up straight, “I’m sorry!” He mumbled. Now that I was standing straight, I noticed him quite well, with his six foot height, disheveled hair, and white tee with a royal blue blazer, and faded jeans, giving him a boyish look.
“It’s okay. It was my fault!” I apologized for walking without paying attention. He nodded and left, but not before giving me a smile. He was attractive with that smile, and the dimples just added to his charm, but surely I’m not meant to like someone. I huffed, and walked towards the counter.
