~~Birthday Girl ~~
Swara’s pov ~~
“Come to me now
And lay your hands over me
Even if it’s a lie
Say it will be alright
And I shall believe
I’m broken into two
And I know you’re on to me
That I only come home
When I’m so all alone
But I do believe
That everything is gonna be the way
You think it ought to he
It seems like everytime I try to make it right
It always comes down on me
Please say honestly you wont give up on me
And I shall believe
And I shall believe.”
I hummed the song, feeling the lyrics and the calming music, as I sat in Dr. Aarav’s cabin. Another day had gone by, it was a busy morning with two trauma patients and one minor case. But, I was also getting closer to the day when I’d be getting engaged to the man I loved.
Everything was happening so fast, but still, it felt so right. This was all I ever wanted since I realized my feelings for Sanskar.
Its really amazing; how our relationship went from friendship to having a crush on each other to actually falling in love with each other. We were really childhood sweethearts and all this was like a dream come true for me.
I instantly closed my eyes, listening to the playlist of my favourite romantic songs. I felt loved, I felt like I was completely new to this feeling, and I wanted to feel that way forever.
I was snapped from my romantic thoughts by Dr. Aarav who was the head of the Neurology Department in Life Beat Hospital, where I worked. He entered the cabin. “Dr. Swara, you can go home. You already had a busy morning. And take a day off tomorrow.” He said.
Was I dreaming ? I was going to ask him anyway for a leave the next day and he himself gave me. Without wasting a minute, I ran away from there in joy and excitement.
The next day was gonna be a little hectic. Oh! And I forgot to mention, that it was Ragini’s birthday! The reason this day was going to be tiring, was that, Laksh wanted to throw a surprise birthday bash for his girlfriend, and the people he asked for help were none other than Sanskar, Kabir and Rohan.
The trio had already came up with weird and childish ideas like – ‘ A princess theme with pink balloons and a big strawberry and chocolate cake!
Like…..seriously? Don’t be shocked when I say that my boyfriend came up with this lame idea.
P.S. — I’ll never let him throw a lame party like that for me, for God’s sake.
That’s when Laksh came running to me for help; ofcourse I agreed…
**The next day**
So, here I was, at Laksh’s place, along with the guys and a few close friends.
“What are you doing ?” I asked Sanskar, as he came in the house with hands full of balloons.
“I bought them. It’ll look nice.” He said, looking at the beautiful colourful balloons floating.
“No! We are not using them. She is not a five year old.” I stated.
“But I like them!” He whined. What was he, a kid ? But I found that cute, and I couldn’t help, but smile.
“Yeah, babe. But Ragini hates balloons. We’ll get the same kind of balloons for your birthday. Now go, and help others.” I said. He huffed and stormed out. He was always so cute!
“Swahaa? Where do I put this ?” Rohan asked from the other end of the room, as he gestured towards the wrapped gifts in his hands.
“First of all, dont call me Swahaa. Secondly, put them back there…” I said.
It was 5 pm already, and Ragini was going to arrive anytime now.
“Okay guys, she’s outside. Just hurry up!” I said as I read Ragini’s message, which said that she was outside Laksh’s place and that he was not well, so she came here to be with him for a while. Yes, he lied to her in order to surprise her!
As soon as I said, Ragini was here, everybody frantically moved here and there. I stood there, and looked at all the mess around me. We had successfully decorated the whole, but these guys were going to spoil it again.
“Kabir stop! You’re messing up my decoration!” I exclaimed, but Kabir seemed to be lost in his own world, talking to Laksh.
“Guys, stop it!” I yelled, gaining their attention. Everybody looked at me with a poker face and I felt like I was an alien.
“Find a place to hide. Ragini is here already. And don’t you dare to my spoil my decoration, Kabir. Now hide!” I said, which caused them all to snap back into reality and quickly find a place to hide.
The door was left open, and the lights were turned off. I stood beside the light switch so that I could turn it on when Ragini would come in. Laksh and Sanskar hid behind the sofa with the party poopers. I had no clue where others were hiding, but I was pretty sure Ragini was going to love this surprise.
“Shh. She’s coming!” Somebody whispered and then suddenly everything fell silent. The sound of her heels were clearly heard as she came closer.
“Laksh? Laksh…..” She called out, looking at the dark room.
Slowly, opening the door, she stepped in and —
SURPRISE !!!!
I switched on the lights as everybody cake out of their hiding spots. “Surprise!” Rohan exclaimed as Ragini just stood there dumbstruck.
“Happy birthday babe!” I exclaimed her pulling into a hug.
“Oh my gosh! Thank you so much, you guys.” She exclaimed hugging back.
“Happy birthday baby!” Laksh said, pulling her for a hug. Instead, she just smashed her lips on his and the rest of us rolled our eyes and turned away…
Soon, the music was being played, and everybody was having hell lot of fun. I was sitting with Ragini, telling her my experience working with these guys and how difficult it is to manage everything alone.
“Oh God, I agree. But hey, thanks a lot for all of this!” She said.
“Don’t thank me. Go and thank your boyfriend for coming up with this idea. I just helped.” I smiled.
As I was talking to Ragini, the doorbell rang. Laksh who was closest to the door, went to open it, while Sanskar joined me and Ragini in the conversation.
Little did I know that the new guest was someone who I knew too well. Someone with whom I had a deep connection…
It was. . . . . .

Ends with a suspense. . .
