Stefano’s POV
Sun had gone down hours ago and the splatters of drop on the glass was uniformly humming, blending with the silence in a bizarre yet usual way.
I took off my coat and poured some whisky on the glass.
It was unusual to rain in the month. I watched the drops merge sliding through the glass window leaving a trail as it flowed down. The luminous light in the room seemed to shudder and retreated as the darkness from outside voiciferously challenged.
I took a sip of the scotch as my thoughts drifted to a particular woman. An enigmatic woman.
It was strange yet remarkable how the darkness reminded me of her.
Myra Rob.
Her presence was enrapturing and addictive.
Yet, she screamed danger in every aspect. As if peril itself followed her. Wherever she stepped, destruction occurred before it could be announced. A coil of complication luring you to untangle. She was an absolute match to the fire you need to shun before it catches your trail and burns you down.
It wouldn’t have been interesting if I didn’t fascinated danger as much.
I was indeed diving into her darkness, attentively looking out for her root; the very source that challenged my being.
“To: Miss Rob
Type your message…”
I had saved her number from the form with enumerating details of her that Lucas had collected effortlessly.
It was not difficult to collect information about her as I expected it would. Without any hassle, everything was laid in front of my eyes like it was waiting for me to address.
I downed the remaining liquor in one go and settled the glass on the desk.
The more you addressed her presence, the more she would become a tease. A tantalising effect on the senses. Her eyes, her nose, her lips everything left a burning effect on your memory. Etched like a leech sucking you deeper until you give up.
And I wanted to unravel her like no one ever did before.
My thumb rested an inch away from the screen finding it difficult to compose a standard message.
My mind was at unease with her thoughts. The curves of her body, her perfect waist, and the piercing on her navel that I just couldn’t forget. When she raised her arms to tie her hair, the hem of her shirt had raised to give me the view of her piercing.
She had not left my mind ever since. She was a hawk demanding the hairtie like I was a thief. I didn’t know she had noticed it. I felt attacked but I wanted to smile. It was torturous.
The way her body moved to attack and dodged every hit invited all the attention if not already. She was enticing and f**king beautiful.
The moment when she saved me from a bullet and landed on top of me, my body felt tormented with a tumultuous and overpowering want. A strong woman with beauty that intrigued all the minds. And damn if she didn’t own it like a goddess.
When she held the gun in her hand, I wanted her to fire it ending my uproar of questions. Putting a full stop to my doubts thus, confirming it.
But the epiphany may have hit her- of the consequences her action may bring as she refrained from pulling the trigger.
I watched her hit James like a fighter, as a trained person would do. Her moves were smooth, swift and on reflex.
I decided to discard the idea of sending her any message and slid the phone in my pocket. Loosening the tie, I took the coat and fetched the packet of cigarette and cary key deciding to pay a visit to Mestre.
I also needed to ask Marco to ship the cars to my place. My father really pissed me when he made a sudden appearance at Lucas’s place. It was unexpected and uncalled for.
He was really the Chief, not the least of information remaining away from his knowledge.
Revving the Porsche, I drove through the causeway and away from Venice.
I had built my empire in this beautiful island because it has always been close to my heart. It was my mother’s homeland.
My phone chimed begetting my attention.
“Capo.” Gio said hastily. He was the head of the security and was given the task to protect and keep an eye on Myra.
The urgency and fear looming in his voice made me attentive.
“She… Capo she is not in her room.” His voice trembled on the call.
“What do you mean?” I tried to keep myself composed yet the anger was bubbling up.
“I was out for a piss and when I came back she was not here capo. The others also didn’t see her leaving.” He continued. “Her roommate is probably asleep and doesn’t know either.”
I cut the call and pressed the accelerator harder zooming to the destination.
Where could she go?
James Walsh was captured in our basement and his men were dead. The woman brought not only attention but upheaval with her which couldn’t be ignored.
In no time, I reached her address and seeing my men aggravated me the more. They took their stance with trepidation when I stepped out of the car.
Grabbing Gio by his neck, I let the words out.
“One f**king job” I tightened my grip seething with anger. “and you fail.”
Men have ego; a f**king giant ego which when bruised flails and reaches anything to hurt. But the authority in me challenged his non- existing one. He knew he was powerless in my hands. On my mercy.
It thrilled me to watch him shake as he choked on his own words. “I.. I am sorry Capo… I will find her.”
My hold threateningly tightened around his neck.
“Fifteen minutes.” I warned him releasing him from my grasp. He wobbled and quickly composed himself before barking directions to the others masking his shame.
I looked around scouring the dilapidated building, stopping on a particular balcony with her on my mind.
The clouds had travelled far by now. Or it never reached in this part of the city considering the dry land. I was too occupied by the thoughts of her missing after the incidents that I didn’t remember when the drizzling stopped on my way.
I walked around the area for good ten minutes doing my own search. She couldn’t have run away in such sudden manner. Actually, she could.
But as I perceived it, she was aware of the consequences and complications of the field and yet chose to work under me. It was like an unseen thread drawing you closer to the other end in the illusion that the pull was from both way.
The road diverged in two different directions from where I stood. My men reached there too. Sending them to the main road I chose to follow the less travelled route to the lake.
Dim lights guided the narrow path around it. I took a turn to the right and my eyes landed on certain someone. I found what I was looking for.
Her silhoutte resting on the wooden bench. One may have mistaken her for being relaxed and fragile at the moment. But I knew better. She was alarmed. The way her ears perched at my most stealthy footsteps. The way her body turned on guard without even shifting visibly.
My feet crunched the dry leaves begetting her rigid stance. Standing behind her lured me to touch her, to hold her, to relish and succumb into the desire growing from within me.
“A daredevil indeed.” I whispered.
She heard me for, her torso slowly did a turn and her eyes ran along my silhouette regarding me while I let mine skim over her face. I was surprised to see the hollowness in her eyes. Her otherwise mischievous azure blue subtly closing in any emotions she felt.
“What are you doing here?” She asked wearily, her voice lacking the usual note and replaced by a calmer one. She was not surprised to see me here as if she was expecting me.
I was at unease seeing her diminished fierceness.
“You should not be here.” I stated, intentionally suppressing the concern.
“I wasn’t expecting you to find me so soon.” She sighed. “It is a secluded area. I wanted to be alone for sometime.” She seemed enervated, the absence of her usual self conspicuously noticeable.
“It is not safe.” I tried as unnatural as it was for me to do.
She chuckled lowly turning around again to regard me. “Safety and serenity can never be together.”
“Who said that?” I found myself saying immediately ignoring the stiffness her tongue had enslaved.
“You just said it Mr. Romano.” she fought back her point and looked away sighing. “It is a fact anyways.”
“No, I didn’t.” I don’t know why I was agitated. I didn’t need to prove anything to her.
“You did.” She chuckled.
“No I didn’t. And let me prove that wrong.” I demanded walking around the bench.
“May I?” She nodded and I took the space beside her. My body immediately flowed with an overwhelming sensation at the closeness.
“If I stay by your side, you can have both safety and serenity.” I said without realising it translated into another meaning as well.
She arched her brow skeptically analysing my point. The amount of speculation she was crafting in her head was borderline.
“Why do you want to be alone?” I raised my thought, my voice coming out smooth to not hinder the peace enveloping us.
“Why do you want to know?” She questioned almost immediately turning her head and holding her gaze to mine. “I am sorry Mr. Romano but your curiousity can easily be mistaken for a fleeting interest of no use.”
And the venom surfaces.
“Stefano.” I corrected.
Her eyes skimmed mine as if it was stupid and unbelievable that my reply was to something of the least importance compared to the whole.
I took my time to look at her, the moonlight shining over her face enhancing every feature she owned.
“The Mafia and his maid?” I clicked my tongue, tasting the words pretending to ponder over it. “-mm not bad.”
She turned away to admire the still lake with a smile tugging her lips.
“The Mafia and his maid.” She repeated after me and laughed shaking her head. I felt a smile form on my lips looking at her.
“The irony is amusing.” She muttered, her laugh abruptly halting. She turned to look at me. “Safe with a Mafia?”
I felt the weight of her words lugging me. We both sat in silence looking blankly at each other.
“Safe with a Mafia.” I affirmed. “When you run away from the demons, I can be your safe place.”
An unknown emotion crossed her face and it was suddenly masked before I could read it. As usual.
“Hush!” She placed a warm finger on my lips. “You are not helping yourself. I want serenity too, remember?”
“I am sure your want is getting fulfilled.” I remarked arrogantly and smiled, gently tucking away her finger from my lips and stroking it subconsciously as I held her smooth hand.
“What’s bothering you?” I asked.
My question seemed to have broken the bubble we were in. She moved her hand away and tore away her gaze from me. “It was difficult to sleep is all.”
I scoffed at her miserable reply. “Let’s believe that.”
My phone vibrated in my pocket breaking any remaining moment we could have had.
“Stef we have a situation.” Marco spoke through.
“Where are you?”
“Ferretto quarters.”
“I will be there.” I cut the call and turn to Myra.
She knew I had to go. Her eyes were expressive of tiny things yet it sheltered her mysteries. Her deepest secrets. The reason people were drawn to her; to drown into it and capture them.
She must have been afraid of people’s motives. Since they may hold it leverage to cage her. And very rarely would someone actually consider to undo the chains binding her.
“Let me walk you home.” I offered. I was not leaving her alone anyway.
She didn’t refuse. Giving one last longing stare to the lake, she wiped her back from any dust.
I watched calmly, itching to do it for her. But she wouldn’t love that so I retracted my wishes.
“Let’s go.” She chimed.
We walked in silence all the way back to her apartment. The silence was satisfying, calming and peaceful with her beside me.
When we reached before the building, she stopped simultaneously with me and turned.
“Do you want to come up…” She held the last word on her tongue for longer than a second, playing the next word on her mind. “…Stefano?”
I felt an abnormal or a very bizarre sensation on my chest. My name on her tongue was my undoing.
I closed the gap between us, placing my hand on her cheeks. She lifted her face to meet my gaze and hell broke lose when all my desire in me to taste her lips intensified.
“Sweetheart.” I breathed on her lips begetting her to lick them.
My hand holding her tightened as I little roughly trailed my fingers to her hair and grabbed it pulling her chin up. I let my other hand feel her lips, pulling down the bottom lip she bit. I could see the burning desire in her eyes that just lured me.
I shook my head. “Someday.”
The surprise in her eyes amused me strangely. “But not today. I have to be somewhere.”
I grabbed the keys in my pocket and turned to walk to where my car was parked. But her hands on my arm stopped me.
She didn’t try to pull me around. Not that she could. And instead decided to stand in front of me.
She let her hands grab the lapel of my suit pulling me closer and stood on her tiptoe. I felt her feathered kiss on the corner of my mouth leaving me want for more.
f**king tease.
“Daredevil.” I muttered releasing a deep breath.
“You do not tease me.” She remarked.
I was sure my smirk didn’t relaxed her. Snaking my hands on her waist, I pulled her closer to me.
“It’s mutual. I do not like to be teased either.” I closed any gap left between us.
Her lips felt like the softest petals of a flower. Smooth and luscious. I didn’t caress it like I should. My senses were overwhelmed once I felt her lips on mine. I took another step caging her between my legs. Her back arched on reflex allowing me to feel her body, her every curves hugging me.
My tongue swiped her lips and a breathless moan left her lips. She kissed me back fervently, challenging me. She bend back a little making me lean and hold her. Her legs were between mine and it didn’t help but further aroused me.
The way her breathlessness ensued, I was sure I can never have enough. She felt it too. Pulling her head back, I trailed down my kisses to her jaw, leaving open mouthed kisses till her neck and all the way up to her lips again.
“Stef..” She was trying to hold her moan down with sweet torturous gasps.
She held on my suit like it was the only thread keeping her on feet. I wanted to kiss her endlessly. To get over this insatiable hunger.
I pulled back but didn’t let go of her waist. Her face was all flustered and brushed with the paint of red.
“You do it and you do it right.” I said cockily and the expression of annoyance was back on her face.
I smirked and tucked her hair away that tried to hide the blush tinting her cheeks. Her skin on me felt intimate. I felt helpless with the desires overpowering my feelings. I just couldn’t stop looking at her.
“You look beautiful.” I whispered.
I didn’t want to release her from my arms but she chose to step back and I didn’t stop her. Her chest heaved as she tried to catch her breath.
“Good Night Stefano.”
When I walked away and opened the car door, she shouted for me to hear. “I don’t need your man to guard us.”
I turned my head and she continued not assured that I would listen to her request. “It’s not like they do it right anyways.”
She shrugged and a smile formed on my lips at her attempt. She was right.
Before hitting the engine, I quickly sent a message to Gio. “You are fired.”

When I reached Ferretto quarters the men were already there.
“What’s the matter?” I quickly asked taking a seat in front of one of the computers.
The green and black was predominant on the screens. They all waited for me to settle which took a mere second before the geek, Issiah rolled his wheels and scooted beside me.
“Aight this a conversation I recorded.” He hit the play button. “I thought might be important to you guys.” He spoke fast, half of the words never making it out of his mouth.
A static was heard for quite long before the voice of a man which was clearly manipulated spoke.
“Took you long, love.”
Silence.
“Hey baby, I just reached home. There was sudden rain in the city.”
“So did you buy me the gift you were looking for?”
“You will get it if you take me out on a date.” She said giving him the clear hint.
“It’ll be my pleasure, love.” The man said. “Saturday evening?”
“I have to visit the library on saturday. Let’s go on Sunday.”
“As you say baby and don’t forget to wear the scarf I love.”
The static remained for few more seconds before it went silent.
I turned to Issiah then to Marco. “How is this important?”
Marco turned to the geek waiting for him to speak. “You see Mr.Romano you don’t plan dates when you are in long distant relationship.”
My brows furrowed at his hint.
“You mean someone communicated from a different country?”
“Aye. Si Mr.Romano.” He moved his forefinger in approval. The man really had some nerve to be mocking me.
“Where?” I asked calmly.
Marco decided to answer instead. He knew the intensity of the situation it would cause. “Russia.”
