CHAPTER 4 : SCREW RULES

LET’S BEGIN
TWINKLE’S POV
“Buzz buzz” The vibration of my phone woke me up “Hello” I replied sleepily. “Dr.Twinkle there is an emergency a car crash accident has come up and there is a child in it who is severely injured the on call doctor had to leave due to family emergency can you please come here” Maya said anxiously .“Sure Maya how long are they from the hospital?” I asked getting out of bed and slipping into my dress taking my coat and keys. “They will be here in about 30 minutes we are the closest hospital from the site of accident” She said. “Well prep the OR I will be there in 10” I said hanging the phone up. I rushed out of my room to find the house empty well maybe 2 in the morning is not enough late for Mr.Sarna I just hope he has carried his keys with him. I wrote a note stating that I had an emergency in the hospital and stuck it on the fridge. I took a multivitamin and left for the hospital. I am not very fond of coffee for one I don’t like it’s smell and two I feel a bit intoxicated by it and tea is just out of the equation this is the reason I took a multivitamin it helps me stay awake.
I reached the hospital in 10 minutes and was greeted with one interns and other surgeons. I scrubbed in as fast as I could.I am a paediatric surgeon and I am required to be present in the OR whenever there is an operation performed on kids along with other surgeons.
In 25 minutes the child was brought in the OR she looked like she was 6-7 years old she had lost a lot of blood and there was a glass piece in her abdomen which god knows may have punctured some internal organ.God I hope I am able to save this child is what I prayed and always pray to god before starting a surgery.
We had no time for a scan or MRI so we did what time could permit us to do we went in blindly we slowly removed the glass piece which had pierced her right hypochondriac, lumbar and iliac region she might have a potential damage of her Liver and intestines if the glass piece is deep she might have a damaged kidney too. I just hope there is not much of damage done.
As the glass piece was removed and the extent of the wound was analysed we found out that the wound was deep and it had hit her Kidney the other organs were safe we removed the kidney because it was damaged beyond repair the girls blood group was O +ve and hopefully she finds a donor soon people can survive with one kidney but I hope she gets a donor soon she is too young to live with the ill effects of one Kidney .
The operation took us 3 hours to finish it was close to 6 am when we finished the operation and let the interns stitch her up I went to the reception to find out more about the accident her parents were injured badly but they were under observation.The drunk truck driver who caused the accident was declared brain dead he had no family at least that is what his records said as I was the surgeon available I was called in for organ procurement. I was supposed to take the Kidney out of the patient as were taking the Kidney out I took a glance at his charts his blood group was O +ve I immediately send his sample for testing and within a hour we got the reports his Kidney was a perfect match for Sia (The accident patient) Since we had a direct donor I quickly requested for an OR to be prepped I know that 2 surgeries I a day could take a troll on Sia’s body but then she wont have to go for the same procedure again sometime in the future we could just keep her in medically included coma after the transplant till she recovers. As soon as I rearranged the anastomoses and waited for a minute the Kidney started to pink up the transplant was successful and Sia was now in the ICU her parents were in the wards beside her all of them were in medically induced coma all we could do know was wait for them to wake up
It was 8 in the evening when all of the operations were done and Sia was stabilised though her heart rate dropped for a few minutes and we had to defibrillate her but she was now stabilised I instructed the interns to monitor her progress as I was leaving.
Reaching home I was tired beyond words and had zero appetite I had a sandwich for lunch which at this point was so filling that I decided to skip dinner and put all the cooked food in the fridge we could use it tomorrow Kunj was still not home or maybe he was and then he left again God knows.
Looking at my bed I sighed I know it’s his turn to sleep on the bed and mine to sleep on the sofa-cum-bed ugh… why today ?? I huffed in annoyance and walked to the sofa-cum-bed I stretched it open and put on the bedsheet Lying on it I realised though it was more comfortable than the sofa it is not as good as my bed I tossed and turned for an hour but I still could not sleep looking at the time in my phone I realised it had been over an hour and it was 12 am now seeing that Kunj had not come home yet I decided to sleep on the bed what he does not know won’t matter Screw the rules I thought jumping on the bed which immediately lured me to sleep.
The sun rays disturbed my sleep today was my day off as I had performed two operations yesterday so there is no point getting up I thought and turned over so that the sun rays don’t disturb my sleep I snuggled deep into my pillow which was you know a bit hard and so…. “f**k” I said opening my eyes all of a sudden this is so wrong. God Kunj was well he was sleeping beside me with his mouth open and his arm around my waist my lips were practically on his neck though I loved it I struggled to get out of his grip but instead his grip only tightened around my waist moving to my last resort I screamed in his ears and he woke up all of a sudden worried and I laughed “What the hell Twinkle” He said glaring at me I tried sobering up a bit but whenever I was close enough to do it I would crack up again finally when I calmed down I sat up on the bed “Sorry but you weren’t letting me go” I said and he twitched his jaw at me and I would be lying if I say that wasn’t hot clearing my head of all the un holly thoughts I have I moved out of the bed but before I could get out of the bed I realised what I was wearing I was wearing an oversized t-shit which reached my mid thigh and my red underwear nothing else I looked at Kunj who was looking at me smirking “I know Twinkle what you are wearing and I must say red is your colour “ He said taking me by surprise “Did you take advantage of me ?” I asked him skeptically “Well isn’t that supposed to be me asking that question?” He retorted sliding the comforter down his body and getting out of the bed there in his gory stood Kunj with his boxer briefs only his toned body his well defined abs and his v which was covered by his boxers damm Twinkle get a grip on yourself I scolded my self getting out of the bed he has already seen it so why worry I thought “What do you mean by me taking advantage of you ?” I asked walking to the kitchen “Well it was my chance to sleep on the bed and you were in it in an oversized t-shirt” he said following me heating the water in the kettle and taking out a bag of green tea I said “I am sorry I said honestly …it was just that I had 2 surgeries yesterday and I was very tired the sofa-cum-bed was not comfortable and you weren’t home so I thought I could sleep on it” I poured the hot water in the mug and and went to my balcony sitting on the swing looking outside I sipped my green tea Kunj too walked in with a cup of green tea and sat on the coffee table in the balcony “It’s okay” He said well maybe we can now both sleep on the bed for now you know I have very great self control”he said and I blushed God why do I always blush around him “No mister it was a one time thing” I said pointing my index finger at him indicating a no “Oh Twinkle please you and I both know that nothing is as comfortable as the bed and we both work hard and deserve some good sleep” he stated the facts well as angry I am feeling he does have a point the sofa-cum-bed is not at all comfortable and nothing happened yesterday so maybe I can trust him “We will use a pillow wall between us” I said looking at him “Okay fine and I swear I wont take advantage of you unless you want me to” He said winking at me before he left for the shower. What an ass …
