Lakshman stopped in his track. He could not believe his ears …his face ashen , he felt himself tumble and Ram caught him to provide support.
“Mila….Oh !!Mila!!!” he heard himself cry , but how could he manage it , he knew not.
Everything was over . All that he had lived by , loved , needed . ALL. He felt a pain so excruciating spread over him , one like he had never felt before . With unsteady , tumbling steps , he barged out of Sumitra’s chamber in the search of his Mila. Ram followed him.
R:- Laksh, Where are you going , my brother???
L:- Bhai , I have to find my Urmi. She can’t leave me. She promised me that we won’t be separated again…
Ram could not control his tears. His sister was gone and his brother’s condition was like an insane person. Somehow, he controlled himself. Ram held Lakshman by shoulders.
R:- Yes Laksh , You won’t be separated …..but we need to know what happened in the way, right??
L:- Yes Bhaiya , we need to know that…
They went into the room and asked Sumitra everything. Shatrughan made Lakshman sit on the bed with Ram and Bharat on either side..
S(b/w sobs):- When we were coming back from Gauri Temple. Urmila was in separate chariot as she was distributing the sweets and clothes among poor. We proposed to wait for her but she said that we must leave as you all will be worried…
L(crying):- Maaa..Then , what happened??
M:- Lakshman bhaiya….suddenly, her chariot lost its balance and she fell into Sarayu . We went there to help her but she was gone. My rakshasi was gone…….
Saying this Mandavi burst out crying . Lakshman’s face was white as a sheet . Now none will fight with him, whom hair will Lakshman untie now?? None will come to him Angad and Chandraketu’s complaints. He could not let this happen. He went to Sarayu followed by Ram . He went inside it and found Urmila’s sardine(dupatta) floating on the water surface. He caught that , put it close to his heart and cried. He wanted to die in the same water.
“Okay. Now I have to go. Take care of Bhaiya , Ang and Chandra”
Urmila’s voice echoed in his ears. Unknowing , Urmila had given him the reason to live.
That day, Lakshmila journey ended. They separated physically forever but their hearts never got separated. Their love is eternal……….n always be!!!!
