Twinj: My Lifeline: Episode 84
A quick recap: Twinkle shocks Kunj with her prank, showing him how good she could actually be at scaring him out of his wits. His admiration for her though, only grows as he discovers more of her talents.
Twinkle’s eyes flickered from her own to Kunj’s reflection in the dressing mirror she was standing in front of when she heard him wolf-whistle at her. He grinned at her without offering any explanation, confusing her. “Kunj, what exactly are you up to?” She demanded, but he only smiled some more. “Kunj Sarna?” She called out, checking if he was in a daze or something, but he only winked at her, throwing her a knowing look. “What is it?” She asked, eyeing his reflection getting closer to hers until she felt him right behind her. “Is today a special day?” He whispered, leaning so close to her that she could feel his breath fanning against her cheek. She quickly turned her head to glance at the calendar, it wasn’t any ‘special day’ like he had asked, but she did end up landing her cheek right in front of his lips with that movement, and he gladly took the opportunity to peck her cheek.
“Another of your stupid tricks?” She questioned, but he shook his head, looking as if offended by her allegation. “It has to be something special today, right? Or something significant?” He asked again, making her rake her brain, but she recalled nothing. “Kunj, I’m sorry, I don’t seem to remember…” She trailed off when she noticed the glint of mischief in his eyes. She raised her eyebrows sternly at him. He giggled, preparing to defend himself as he slowly spoke, “Aren’t these the earrings that I bought for you in Udaipur? And you wear them only on extremely important days, right?” She rolled her eyes at him, turning back to the mirror. She stilled when he wrapped his arms around her and pulled her impossibly close, whispering, “Aren’t these earrings absolutely precious to you? Because the love of your life, the prince of your dreams, the apple of your eyes gifted them to you?” His voice had a coarse undertone to it, causing the butterflies in her tummy to go absolutely crazy.
“You’ve got to stop teasing me now, Kunj!” She protested, her voice coming out more like a whimper than the annoyed tone she had intended. “Where’s the fun in that?” He asked, almost lifting her off the ground as he proceeded with his ministrations that she was sure would drive her crazy. “And you find this very funny? Bothering me this way?” She mumbled, her voice almost a moan. He was tempted to respond in the affirmative just to rile her up, but he had accidentally tickled her, making her writhe out of his arms, struggling to stop laughing. “Twinkle! This is so unfair!” He asserted, mumbling something about her always finding some way or the other to escape his arms. She shrugged her shoulders, stating, “You know I’m ticklish there, Kunj! Not my fault!” He threw her a challenging look as he spoke, “Fine then, come along, I’ll find a way to get my way through that doesn’t involve tickling you unwittingly.” He smirked as her eyes widened and jaw literally dropped, even as her cheeks blushed crimson.
She threw him another bored look over the corner of her eyes when she heard him snicker, but that did nothing to deter him. He returned to his place right behind her almost immediately, making her squeal in surprised delight as he twirled her around, ensuring she landed right in his arms, facing him this time round. “You seem to be in an exceptionally good mood today!” She observed, trying not to focus on his hand on her waist, lest she should end up turning red all over again. “I am!” He responded, dropping a quick peck on her forehead. She smiled warmly at him as she let her hands find their way around his neck. She knew he had looked forward to this day for so long. A month to be precise. It had been a whole month since the entire Krish debacle, and that was how long it had taken for the producers and composers whom Kunj worked with to decide he did deserve another chance. She wasn’t about to spoil it for him by reminding him of his extremely restless wait though.
He had recognized from the blank look in her eyes that though she was looking at him, her mind was apparently lost in deep thought. And so, he entwined his fingers with hers, bringing their hands up to her cheeks at a painfully slow pace, gliding them along her side. Just like he had anticipated, that little action made her jump back into reality, and she now watched him with bated breath. He placed a soft lingering kiss on her other cheek, drifting to her jaw and then her neck, tightening his hold on her waist when he felt her knees buckle. He grinned when she tugged at his hair, aware that it had been an involuntary response to what he was doing to her. He also knew that had she realized what she was doing, she would have backed off immediately. Some things had actually remained unchanged, even over so many months of being together.
“Kunj!” She let out a shrill cry when he got to her particularly sensitive spot, her hand that was in his hair dropping to grab his shoulder to anchor herself. She was gasping by now and he paused all activities to look at her. He loved watching her, it was something he could never get enough of. When she had caught her breath, she leaned forward, resting her head against his shoulder, her lips just grazing over his neck unintentionally, making him inhale sharply at the sudden contact. When her mind was able to think straight again, she found him rubbing his thumb gently over her ring, appearing thoughtful. “What is it, Kunj?” she asked, her voice so low that she wasn’t sure if he had even heard her. But then he looked up at her with a bright smile. “You know what we should do?” He asked cheerfully, making her giggle at his excitement. “What?” She responded, her own thumb rubbing over his cheek to get rid of the lipstick mark she had just noticed, although she couldn’t remember kissing him. But then, with him, she always lost herself, so she could never know. “We should get married again!” He exclaimed, and she stared at him as though he had just suggested he was an alien.
“Do I take your silence as a yes?” He asked after having waited for what according to him was an agonizingly long period, but Twinkle was still looking at him cluelessly. “No.” She replied, stretching a little away from him to get a proper view of him. He strained his arms to hold her in place, else she would have dropped to the ground with that motion. “Why would we do that?” She questioned, still looking at him like that. Well, that was a response he hadn’t expected. What was he to say if his own wife was asking him why she had to marry him – again, but that’s beside the point, right? “Because last time, it wasn’t half as fun as it should have been!” He answered honestly, and the look in her eyes only got weirder. “I’m sorry, it wasn’t fun?” She repeated, unable to believe what she was hearing. He nodded, his eyes brightening with hope while she shook her head, appearing disconcerted. “Twinkle…” He began, putting on his best puppy face but she just quickly pushed him away. However, in her haste, she had forgotten that the only reason she hadn’t already toppled to the ground was because he was holding her.
In a desperate attempt to prevent falling backwards, she had pulled onto his shirt, making him crash to the ground with her. “Owww!” She cried out in pain, hitting him when he laughed. “That’s enough silliness for a day, Kunj! Help me up!” She ordered and he obliged sincerely, albeit still fighting back his laughter. “Pretty please?” He implored her yet again, but it took her a whole minute to realize what this was in reference to. “First of all, no. Also, no. Did I say no already?” She spoke dramatically, rolling her eyes at him. He pouted at that, making her snicker. “Kunj! Marriage isn’t an amusement park ride! It isn’t supposed to be fun. It has to be meaningful, sanctified and real, which ours was. And that’s enough!” She argued, while he stared at her as if in a daze. “But I don’t even know what the vows were or even what each of those little and big rituals we performed meant!” He admitted, but she didn’t look unhappy at that at all. Instead, she smiled the kind, understanding smile that he knew she reserved for him whenever he did something crazy without knowing it.
“Of course, you didn’t, Kunj! And to be fair, neither did I!” She consoled him, and it was his turn to give her the skeptical look. “While you were marrying me only because Usha Ma left you no choice, the way Leela Ma had been trapped and worries of how we would ever manage all this kept my mind too occupied for me to focus too. In fact, I had been so worried for you; you had looked so troubled after all!” She explained, making him sigh. “You know what actually matters though? Every single day from then onwards, knowingly or otherwise, just because it was a duty as a friend or because of being hopelessly in love, I’m sure we kept up each vow, each promise, adding our own to them as we came along.” She continued shooting him a meaningful glance before looking over at their picture hanging on the wall behind their bed. “You know what…” He began, and she returned all her attention to him. “You’re right!” He accepted, sounding completely convinced. “Like always!” She hit back, winking at him, chuckling as his eyes widened at that. “And I love you” He added nonetheless, his grin widening when he heard her mumble an ‘I love you too’ as she stepped forward, hugging him. How was he to refuse that anyways? So, he only held her close. Closer, if possible.
“Kunj, what’s this red mark?” Twinkle asked as she pulled back a few minutes later, touching the spot carefully so that she wouldn’t hurt him. “I don’t know” He answered, turning to the mirror to take a proper look at the slightly burning patch of skin on his neck. And then it struck him. “That was you.” He informed her, pressing his lips together as he saw the colour leave her face. “What?” She stuttered, making him burst out laughing. “Your earrings, Twinkle. They scraped against the skin when you were…” The rest of his sentence came out indecipherable because she had put her hand on his mouth to quieten him, but he only laughed some more at it. “Don’t expect me to stop wearing them, Kunj. In case you don’t want any more of those red spots, just keep away from me.” She said, narrowing her eyes at him, but he whispered with a smug smirk, “It’s worth it all.” And just before she left, she heard him say, “Also, now the whole world will know how much you love me! Besides proving the point that no matter how many ‘creative’ excuses you think of in that mind of yours, you’ll always forget to ply them by when it’s actually needed!” He received a prompt pillow thrown at his head for that, but the look on her face was worth that too.
That’s it for now, guys! I so loved writing this, I hope you all enjoyed it too. Until next time, much love!!
