Twinj: When I Fell For You: Season 2 Episode 21

A quick recap: Misha finally realises her folly and apologises to Twinkle and Simmi. Simmi begins to grow receptive of her yet to be born sibling, Kunj helps Twinkle to deal with her challenges.

“Simmi! It’s only skip counting! How could you go wrong in this?” Twinkle asked Simmi disappointedly as she brought her homework with several mistakes to Twinkle for the third time that evening. “I don’t understand why it is so important that they’ve given me four pages of this! It gets boring, Mumma! And then I won’t be able to concentrate no matter how hard I try!” Simmi defended herself with a pout, while Twinkle muttered “Drama Queen!” under her breath as she proceeded to erase the ones that Simmi had gone wrong with. “That many are wrong?” Simmi asked annoyedly, as she glanced at her book, asking Twinkle, “Are you sure you know this properly, Mumma? Or should I ask Papa?” Twinkle laughed at her, assuring her that she knew both the problems and Simmi very well, and told her that she should get back to her work right away if she wanted to finish it in time. “It’s like hopscotch, Simmi! You know that, don’t you?” Kunj spoke as he walked in, and that was it. Simmi put away her book and ran to Kunj to play with him while Twinkle sighed, giving up in advance for she knew it was useless, but still made a vain attempt to try to make the two of them understand that if not now she would end up doing it at bed time. “You teach your daughter her Math in that case!” She told Kunj, smiling sweetly at him, while he countered with “Oh now she’s suddenly only my daughter? Twinkle, we had decided that I would teach her EVS!” Twinkle smirked at him, since they both knew that Simmi had to be in a very good mood if she had to do her Math, else it could as well remain forgotten. Before they even finished deciding on the subjects, Simmi jumped off Kunj’s arms and ran out of the room, telling them that she was going to call Pari.

“We should get going now if we don’t want to be late.” Kunj told Twinkle, who glared at him. “She’s a smart, responsible kid, Twinkle! She’ll handle her work just fine. Take a chill pill, will you?” He spoke casually, and although she knew he was right, she was also aware that she would get drowsy by dinner time itself, and would end up sleeping through the rest of her homework. If Twinkle had her way, she would have made sure she finished her work before she went off to play, but not that day, for she had an appointment for a sonogram and they couldn’t be late. She knew Kunj was extremely excited, which was the only reason he had taken half the day off and come home as early as he could. She smiled to herself as Kunj led her to the car, talking excitedly about all that he remembered from the same instance when they were expecting Simmi. Her smile widened at the memory as he helped her with her seatbelt, making sure she wasn’t uncomfortable. “I’ve told Ma that Simmi is her responsibility for the rest of the evening, so you don’t have to worry about that. She told me she would be taking Simmi to the Gurudwara along with her, so we could go there after this.” Kunj told Twinkle, making her widen her eyes in amusement. However, she didn’t voice it to Kunj, knowing it would be fun to watch him realise the cause of her giggles.

Kunj’s grip on Twinkle’s hand grew tighter as the doctor showed them their little munchkin on the monitor. “My little baby! So beautiful!! Look at it!” He exclaimed, making the doctor ask them of it was their first child. “It’s my baby! I’ll always be this excited about it!” Kunj replied, making Twinkle and the doctor giggle. “Oh now it’s suddenly only your baby?” Twinkle whispered to Kunj, imitating his statement earlier that day, making him giggle. He leaned towards her and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead, whispering back, “Yes. Both my kids are just mine!” while Twinkle smacked him playfully. “Can’t wait for the day when I’ll get to hold both Simmi and this little one in my arms!” He told her eagerly and she nodded, for she couldn’t agree more. The doctor then told them that the baby was doing absolutely fine, and proceeded to tell Twinkle to ensure that she got the right amount of rest and exercise, while Kunj listened attentively. Just one glance at him was all Twinkle needed to know that he would be stricter towards her on those aspects now.

Kunj was left spellbound by the sight that welcomed him and Twinkle at the Gurudwara. Simmi was dressed up in a Salwar suit, with her Dupatta on top of her head, just like Twinkle had always looked to him when they were younger. What really blew his mind though, was how absorbed she was in listening to the older women around her, Usha and her friends to be specific. They were evidently gossiping about someone else’s daughter or daughter-in-law like he knew they always did, and Simmi was gaping at them. “We should have left her with Leela Ma, shouldn’t we?” Kunj dejectedly told Twinkle as they walked towards Simmi, while Twinkle had a hard time holding back her laughter. She had already known that would happen, and Kunj’s helplessness only made her laugh. “Simmi. Simmi Kunj Sarna.” They heard Simmi introduce herself to another woman who had just joined the group. “That’s my girl!” Kunj whispered proudly to Twinkle, momentarily forgetting his worry until he heard them begin to gossip again. They greeted the ladies, hoping they wouldn’t have to get too involved in their conversation, but Usha thought that was the right time to tell her friends that Twinkle was pregnant, which led to a long congratulating session. Just as they were about to leave, one oldie asked Twinkle if she didn’t think that the age difference between Simmi and the baby was too much. “It’s only six years. I think it’s just perfect, and in any case, we would prefer this over the almost non-existent difference in the ages of your sons!” Kunj countered as sweetly as he could, making Usha glare at him. Twinkle quickly dragged Simmi and Kunj away, knowing too well that Kunj hated it when people poked their noses in others’ lives.

“At least Leela Ma wouldn’t take Simmi to a group of people who can be such bad influence on young minds!” Kunj argued as they got into the car. “Stop blaming Usha Ma, Kunj! She must get bored of sitting all alone at home the whole day!” Twinkle explained, but he wouldn’t listen. “Does Leela Ma not get bored?” He retorted, making Twinkle sigh as she responded, “Leela Ma has to take care of Pihu. That must take up most of her time!” Simmi, who was sitting in the back seat had watched that exchange carefully and finally quipped in, “Wait. Papa, you are taking Nani’s side, and Mumma is taking Dadi’s side? How is that possible?” That realisation only hit them then and they looked at each other amusedly. “Usha Ma has always loved me so much, even since I was a little child! How could I not take her side?” Twinkle justified and Simmi nodded, both of them turning to Kunj for his answer. “Leela Ma has always loved everybody! How could I not take her side?” Kunj said, using the exact same timbre that Twinkle had, winking at her. “And, check mate!” He added giggling as they looked on in surprise. “Wait till I tell Dadi that you don’t love her, Papa!” Simmi said, jumping off the car as soon as he stopped in the driveway. “Now it’s check mate!” Twinkle teased Kunj as he watched Simmi run into the house in astonishment.

When all of Kunj’s attempts to convince Simmi failed, he finally told her, “When you grow up, you’re going to be the director of the ‘Complaint Box Office’! Choti Siyappa Queen, do you hear me?” Simmi looked up at him confusedly, making Twinkle giggle. “I don’t want to work there, whatever that is, Papa! I don’t like your and Mumma’s jobs anyway. So dull and boring.” She answered. Twinkle quickly walked over and sat in front of her, not wanting to miss the fun that would follow. She was sure that it would be entertaining. “Really? What does Simmi want to become when she grows up then?” Kunj asked curiously, sitting down beside Twinkle. “I will be a rapper!” Simmi announced cheerfully, leaving her parents shocked at the hundredth time she had changed her ambition. They knew she was too young to decide already and never tried to egg her on, but when she came up with extremely ‘innovative’ ideas like these, it was sure to put them in a daze. While Twinkle still recalled her desire to become a mermaid, a puppeteer, a butterfly keeper and another couple of things that had come up in the last month alone, Kunj recovered quickly and spoke, “But rappers need to be really good at skip counting. Did you know that?” Simmi stopped her blabber about her favourite raps and stared suspiciously. “Really?” Twinkle and Simmi asked in chorus, making Kunj fight his desire to burst out laughing. “Siyappa Queen, could you cooperate a little here, please? I’m trying to get her to do her Math!” He quickly whispered to Twinkle, which made her feel really stupid. He went on to tell Simmi some story that he had made up to convince her on that issue, and with that, he had made arrangements for her to finish her homework for the day.

That’s it for now, guys. Lots of love!
