Vikas Sethi, best known for his role in Kyuki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, tragically passed away on September 8 at the age of 48 due to cardiac arrest. While many knew him for his iconic television roles, few were aware of the personal battles he faced. The actor had been missing from the TV industry for quite some time, largely due to his struggles with depression. In today’s throwback segment, let’s revisit a moment when Vikas candidly opened up about his mental health journey.
In an interview with Bombay Times, Vikas, who also starred in Kasautii Zindagii Kay, shared the difficulties he faced during a particularly challenging phase of his life. “It was a tough and frustrating phase. It wasn’t just about being out of work; I was also facing personal issues. I was suffering financially and was clinically depressed,” he revealed.
Addressing his long absence from the industry, Vikas explained that he didn’t intentionally take a break but rather “faded into oblivion.” He was, however, eager to make a comeback. During this time, he focused on personal growth, including changing his appearance and losing weight in preparation for his return to acting.
Reflecting on his past mistakes, Vikas admitted, “Yes, I have made mistakes, but isn’t that human? If I had known those mistakes would cost me my career, I would have avoided them. But now, I am positive and in a happy space. I am also getting a good response from people.”
Throughout this difficult period, Vikas credited his wife, Jhanvi, and his brother, Vishal, for being his pillars of support. He acknowledged that the entertainment industry can be fickle, with friends distancing themselves when one faces hardships. “Friends who would stand outside my home, asking me to party with them, suddenly disappeared when I wasn’t doing anything,” he shared.
Despite these challenges, Vikas felt fortunate to have a loving and supportive family by his side. He often spoke about how his wife, Jhanvi, was his driving force through the toughest times. In fact, Jhanvi had once posted a touching video of Vikas singing Shah Rukh Khan’s song Layi Vi Na Gayi, a rendition that still moves his fans to tears.
Vikas Sethi’s story is a reminder of the struggles many face behind the scenes, highlighting the importance of mental health awareness and the value of a supportive family. He may be gone, but his legacy as both an actor and a fighter lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
