Hola Twisties, back with the continuation of the last chapter
before the leap to the 20th December 2020.
A different POV than my usual and I hope that I can do justice to this character.
Internal monologues are conveyed in bold and without any further ado…
2nd December 2020,
~Ashwini’s POV~
As I tell Pathrelekha’s parents that the girl with Virat is my daughter-in-law Sai, I see how their faces change to shock and something else.
If they knew about their daughter and Virat, then why didn’t they stop destroying my Samrat’s life? My mind and heart ask.
I feel uncomfortable around this family but I have to tolerate them as they are the parents of a daughter-in-law of this house. I’m glad that she is not my Virat’s wife because I have never seen such a stupid girl like her.
If I was in love with a man, who is now married and is my husband’s brother, I would let go of him as I deserve better than the heartbreak. My heart says.
I sense that Pakhi is looking at me up and down at me like I’m the filth on her shoes. I give her a withering look, walk away towards my son and my lovely daughter.
But before that I’m pulled away from the room by my husband.
“Aap yeh kya kar rahe ho(Wha are you doing)?” I ask him as I fold my arms.
“Apni biwi ke saath time spend kar raha hoon(Spending time with my wife).” He replies back with a mischievous smile playing on his lips.
“Aap toh bacchon ke saath rehte hi besharam ho gaye(You have become shameless while living with these kids).” I tease him while his cheeks completely turn red. I wink at him and am about to leave when he kisses me softly.
“I’m sorry for the way I have behaved with you since we have gotten married,” he says in between the kiss, “but our lovely and badass daughter Sai has opened my eyes.”
I can feel the tears pricking my eyes and he lovingly wipes them away. I want to say a lot of things to him but I do not have the courage as the past is in the past and I hope for a better future.
“Ashwini,” he begins to say when I see someone coming towards us, so I hide my husband and pretend like I’m drinking a glass of water.
“Ashwini Wahaini, Wahaini apko aur Ninad dada ko bula rahi hai(You and brother Ninad are being called by sister-in-law Bhavani).” Sonali says.
“I’m coming,” I say when Ninad comes from the room opposite the kitchen.
“Are you looking for me?” He asks Sonali and she nods. I look at the clock on the wall and see that it’s nearly time for the function. But then Sai comes as we are about to leave.
“Aai, I have a problem,” she says and I listen carefully when she continues, “how do you blush when someone compliments you?”
“Why?” I ask her in shock which is visible in the faces of Sonali and Ninad.
“Because whenever people would say it to me, they never meant it! So I do not believe them at all.”
“My dear,” I say, “some have problems expressing themselves.” She looks confused.
For that reason I make an example, “Virat is a good example for this,” Ninad looks at me like “what’s going on, while Sonali is laughing silently, “he doesn’t know how to compliment someone. So even if he compliments you by saying that you look good he means that you look more than good.” The whole time I can feel her looking at me, nodding a few times and then she hugs me.
“Thanks Aai,” she exclaims happily, “you saved me!”
I shake my head laughing a bit and say, “we should get going or else, you know what’s gonna happen…”
“Kaku is going to happen,” she says with a naughty grin. Then we walk out of the kitchen.
As we reach our destination most of the guests are here but Sai is looking for someone. And luckily Virat is telling her not to worry. I must say that Bhavani Wahaini decision was good.
But the way Virat is looking at her is so adorbs, that’s what the youngsters would say. My heart and mind say while I look at them happily.
A few minutes later we are about to start the ritual when someone says, “I hope I’m not late!”
“Oh, no no, it’s okay,” Bhavani Wahaini says in a sweet tone, “it’s nice to have people from such a reputed family coming to our function.”
Wahaini ko mirchi lag ne wali hai(sister-in-law is going to get burned). My mind says with a smirk.
“Aap kisikey rishtedar hai(Are you someone’s relative)?” Wahaini asks.
“Mamu,” Sai says happily running towards him and when she stands in front of she continues saying, “I’m glad that you made it.”
She is about to bend down to take his blessings when he says, “Ghar ki beti pair nahi chute par ghale lagate(Daughter’s of our house do not take blessings by touching our feet but by hugging us).”
She laughs and says, “Nanu ko pata dhoon ki aap unki line chori ki hain(Should I tell grandpa that you stole his line)?” She asks and I can sense that she is raising her eyebrows at him. He laughs too by hugging her.
“Aap sach mein us jungli billi ke rishtedar hai (Are you really this wildcat’s relative)?” Wahaini asks.
“Haan (Yes),” Aakash ji replies back, “yeh meri Di ki ek lauti beti hain aur Kapoor khandhan ke business ki malkin (she my sister’s only child and owner of the business of Kapoor family).”
As soon as he reveals that everyone is shocked except for Sunny, Mohit, Karishma, Sonali, Omi, Ninad, Virat and I.
Pakhi looks like she wants to bury herself in the deepest hole possible. But I don’t know why.
“How are you Sir?” Pakhi’s dad asks Aakash ji.
Oh that is the case then. My mind says.
“I’m fine, thank you. How are you and your family?” Sai’s Mamu says to him and asks.
“We are fine too, that’s my wife Vaishali and that’s my daughter Pakhi, who’s married to…” he immediately gets interrupted by Aakash ji.
“Samrat! He is indeed a great guy, mum, dad and Brigadier Sood are very much impressed by him.”
“How do your parents know him?” Ninad asks him even though he knows the truth.
“It’s because he worked a few years ago with my parents as they were higher ups in the military and were in London.” The man in question answers back with a smile.
“Oh yes, that was his first mission.” Mansi Tai says with a longing smile. The past few weeks have been quite hard on her.
Most of the people regained from the shock and finally the ritual is going to start.
Virat stands in front of Sai, slowly unveils her face and shows her to the world but not before kissing her forehead lovingly. Now he is standing beside her with Pakhi glaring at them filled with jealousy.
Guests start praising her for her beauty genuinely. Whereas less people praised the other two daughter-in-laws of ours. Karishma is smiling while Pathrelekha is burning even more in jealousy.
As the people are leaving, another voice says, “I’m sorry for being late!”
We cannot see him as he is walking towards Sai and she happily says, “Yeh mera surprise hai Mamu(This is my surprise uncle).”
“Yup,” the man replies back and is about to turn around when Pathrelakha opens her assumptious mouth.
“Yeh Ladka Sai ka Prince hai(This boy is Sai’s Prince).”
“Excuse me,” he turns around angrily and I recognise him immediately.
“Sanskar,” The whole family says, he shakes his head.
“No, I’m Shekhar Kapoor,” he replies back, “Sanskar’s twin brother and Sai’s elder brother.”
“Yes,” Sai says while giving Miss Assumptious a piercing glare, “this is my dada Sh and the woman next to him is my Bhabhi Manvi.”
No one had noticed except for Sai off course and maybe Virat. Who was standing next to her with a poker face.
“Where’s dada?” Sai asks.
“He is still in New York,” her sister-in-law replies back. Sai nods.
“He hasn’t contacted me since days,” Shekhar says with a sad smile, “I don’t know if he is alright or not.”
“Beta(Son) don’t worry about him, I’m sure that he is fine.” His mother Sunaina says.
“Don’t you dare call me your son ever again. You are not my mother!” He yells at her. She tears up while her husband wipes her tears away.
“Dada Sh, how can you talk to her like that? She is the one who raised you and Dada and loves us three like we are her own children!” Sai calmly tells her brother even though she wants to yell at him.
“If our mother was alive then dad wouldn’t have married this woman who fakes all the love and concern for us.” He yells again while his wife is trying to calm her down.
“Is that so?” Sai asks by raising her eyebrows and then continues saying, “because if Mami ji was faking her love for us all then she would have left Mamu long ago,” she takes a break and continues, “but she didn’t unlike Maithili Mami…”
“What are you trying to say?”
“That our mother didn’t die while giving birth to us. She left us and is living her life in New York with a new man.” Sanskar says as he comes inside.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” He asks looking at his family.
“Because we knew that you wouldn’t believe us so I went to New York to gather all the proofs.” Sanskar replies back. His brother was left speechless while Sanskar went to take blessings of his parents.
“Maa, I love you,” he says and Sunaina smiles at him wholeheartedly. She ruffles his hair.
“Dada, why are you actually in Nagpur?” Sai asks.
“I’m here because I thought to meet the Chawan’s, then to go to Ghadchiroli to meet you and Phuppa ji(Husband of aunt from father or father-in-law’s side). Where is he? I cannot see him.”
Sai tears up, so Virat says with tears in his eyes, “Kamal Sir died while saving my life.”
“No this can’t be,” he shakes his head but Sai nods that it’s true.
He and Shekhar then hug Sai followed by her uncle and aunt. Soon they calm down.
Then the brothers turn towards us. “You all must be wondering who Sai’s Prince is?” they ask and we nod.
“Prince, tumhari Sai tumhara intezaar kar rahi hai (Your Sai is waiting for you, Prince).” Shekhar says. We hear someone running towards Sai.
Then we see a two year old boy in a baby pink and white traditional Indian Kurta. He hugs her legs and Sai squats down towards him.
“Hi, my cute Yuvraj.” He looks up at her, she bends down and he kisses her cheek. Then he turns around and gives us a cheeky smile.
“Let me introduce you guys to Yuvraj aka Prince Mathews-Mane,” She gets interrupted by Virat…
“He is a Mane! Is Jagtap his father?”
“No, but his cousin Viraj Mane is the father of him and his mother is…” Sai replies back yet she again gets stopped but by Victoria, who is wearing a saree.
“Here you are Prince,” she says calmly yet her tone has a pinch of fear, “mommy was looking for you everywhere.”
Yuvraj doesn’t react at all except for pouting at his mom.
“Vicky, you look amazing in saree.” Sai says, making both mother and son duo smile as well as blush.
“Sai’s right.” One of the twin brother’s says and Sunny is burning in jealousy.
“Thank you, Sanky bro.” Sunny calms down immediately and smiles while walking towards her.
“You look beautiful,” he says to her and she blushes whereas her son glares at him.
Sai chuckles and sweetly says, “bad manners Prince. Sunny is a nice guy and your mommy likes him a lot. Try to get to know him!”
An offended Prince shakes his head and turns his face away from Sai who looks shocked and hurt. The center of this boy’s attention is Virat now.
Virat who was jealous of Sai’s Prince is having a smile knowing that he was jealous of a child. He squats down towards the kid.
“Hi, Yuvraj, I’m your Sai’s husband, but I hope we can be friends.” At first he looks at Virat trying to decipher him and then he nods with another cheeky grin of his.
All of a sudden we hear Devyani saying the name, “Sanskar,” and then we see her faint near the staircase…
