First off, I want to start this Analysis saying that I personally love YHM and I watch it pretty much watch every episode and probably would continue to do so. Now, with this analysis, I am trying to make a good and healthy conversation on what kind of issues the show has. However, if you are someone who is not very good with criticism, then this analysis is not for you.
Starting off, I will give you all a brief recap of what has been going on right now. So, Ruhi got into this romantic relationship with a person named Nikhil. When Ruhi spoke to Ishita about this, Ishita show support to her. Following that, Ruhi and everyone else learned that Nikhil is actually the Dad of Riya. That is the first time Raman hears about Ruhi’s feelings and he is pissed. When Nikhil is not able to answer any of the questions his ex-wife raises, Ruhi is heartbroken and she breaks up with him. While Raman is trying to help Ruhi improve in her career, Ishita accidentally stumbles upon some information and find out what is the truth behind Nikhil, realising that he is a good person. On the same time, Ruhi finds out the same and she goes to Nikhil, patching up with him. When she comes back home, things get messed up as Ruhi reacts a bit violent, triggering Raman to get angry too.
Let us see what is good with the show. What I find good is how they are treating the character of Raman. Honestly, he is a reasonable dad. He is not exactly against love. I mean, in the beginning, he was the one who supported Adi and Aliya’s relationship. There is no question about whether he supports love. Now, to everyone who think he is being stupid, put yourself in his place and think. You have a son who has always been obedient and even when he made mistakes; he learnt from it and became a better person. You also have a daughter, who stupidly fell in love with a lunatic, going as far as standing against her whole family. She went to freaking Jail because of him and that almost broke her parent’s marriage. Sadly, she did not learn a thing from that incident. Whereas, Raman learned a lot. Raman knows that his daughter is not exactly strong when it comes to finding partners. He knows that as much as Ruhi tries to be an adult, she is not mature enough. Now, one thing that I find very irritating is when people say that Raman is behaving like this because Ruhi is a girl. Think about it, if Raman had such a low mind-set, then would he even allow her outside? Would he even allow her to work in the office? I do not think so. It is bad to make this into a debate about how women are treated because that is not something that really applies in this case. So, I request people to stop bashing on Raman cause, that’s not the issue.
Second good thing would be how the family is reacting. Usually, Bhalla house have this weird tendency of making things harder for themselves. However, this time, they made sure they are not interfering too much, only showing support, taking care of Ruhi. That is an improvement from before where everyone made some talk about the issue in hand, confusing everyone.
Now, coming to the bad stuff, there is one bad thing that I find very annoying. That would be how Ishita and Ruhi are behaving. Now, I am clearing this to everyone, I love Ishita and Ruhi. They are one of my favourite characters. But, their recent tracks have been… honestly speaking, very stupid. Now, concerning Ruhi, I frankly don’t care much. Ever since the first leap, I never had that connect with Ruhi. The last time Ruhi felt awesome was when she was a kid. Having said that, Aditi is a great actress and I respect her work. Hopefully, the writers would come to sense and write Ruhi’s character better after the leap. I have a few suggestions with I would talk about in the end.
Now, with Ishita, I always have huge expectations from her. She is an inspiring character. So, as a basic rule, you expect her to make very little mistakes. But, for the past few weeks, Ishita has been thinking without a clear head, going blind with her love for Ruhi, not seeing why she is doing the wrong thing. And I am going to say a few point that she had not seen yet. First off, Ruhi is not mature enough. You see how I don’t use ‘Old enough’. That’s because YHM has always been very vague with dates and it’s frankly alright. Because, despite the age, the main issue is that Ruhi has very little maturity. She still sees the world as a child and while Raman understands this and treats her like a child, Ishita doesn’t understand this and treats her like an adult. This is the main cause for all the problems. Second thing, Ishita is un-necessarily blaming Raman for forcing the decisions. But, the truth is, Raman never has, nor will he ever have the power to force decisions. Because, despite how much you hate the show, Bhalla family is one such family where people make their own decisions. It’s a house where if someone makes a decision, then others have the guts to prove it wrong. So, even if Raman tried to force the decision, he can’t.
More importantly, Ishita has a fundamental issue. This issue is that, if Ishita believes in something, she is very adamant, even more adamant that Raman, and will advocate that thing until she finds the answer. For this, I’ll take the example of that one time when Mihir’s sister’s name was a mystery. Ishita was adamant on finding who Mihir’s sister was, despite him repeatedly saying that he doesn’t want to talk to her. That is how Shagun stopped Mihir’s marriage and all the chaos that followed. Moreover, with this, I do not say that Raman is innocent. Raman is an angry person. However, if you think about it, Raman, at one point, if explained properly will understand everything.
Now, going ahead, I have a few suggestions and theories on how they can improve the show. First off, cast someone new to play Ruhi. A older version of Ruhi, considering that the show is rumoured to take a 10 year leap. Also, if possible, have Aditi(Actress playing Ruhi) play older Pihu. That would be a really interesting. With the others, I am kinda hoping they show Adi and Aliya maybe trying for a kid or even better, already have a kid. That would be super interesting to watch. Second thing I want to see is Ishita trying to mend the relationship. Cause, if you think about it, each time they fight, Raman is the one who is trying to patch up. It would be really interesting if Ishita matures more as a character and they try to sort their relationship maturely.
