”What do you mean you’re dating him?” Kabir asked when I met him the next day.
“It’s a hoax, babe. Just to get mom off my back,” I tried to pacify him.
”I’m tired of you treating me like your dirty little secret,” he argued.
”I will tell them about you. Eventually. It’s just that they’re so hung up on the idea of arranged marriage. It’s exhausting, honestly,” I complained.
”Yeah? Well, how do you think I feel?” he was nearly shouting now.
”Don’t talk to me like that,” I snapped.
”You’re impossible,” he said and walked off, leaving me alone in the cafe.

I was making pasta for myself later that day when my phone buzzed.
Ahana: hey i see u
Me: ???
Ahana: with krishna i mean
Me: wdym im at home
Ahana: so who is kanishk snogging then??
I frowned at my phone just as she sent me a picture. It was Kabir. Kissing a girl. Who wasn’t me. But was Vansh’s sister.

I was so angry I didn’t even realise when I started crying. I wiped my tears and called him.
”Hello,” he said like he hadn’t just been cheating on me.
”Where are you?” I asked.
”At home, why?” he lied easily.
“Because I know you’re blo*dy lying! How could you do that to me? Does our three year long relationship mean nothing to you?” I yelled.
”I have no idea what you’re talking about,” he said calmly.
”Yes, you do! Stop lying to me,” I cried.
”So what if I am? At least I’m not pretending to date someone else!” he yelled back.
”At least I didn’t cheat on you,” I sobbed but he had already hung up.
I still crying when I got a DM on Instagram.

I realised that Vansh had probably been lying to me too. I had shown him a picture of Kabir when we first met. He must have seen his sister hook up with him. I blocked him.
