Zaan Khan’s Near Miss with ‘Heeramandi’: Skipped auditions for Tajdar

Heeramandi has emerged as one of the most successful web series in recent times, marking a spectacular OTT debut for Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Garnering immense attention, the series has captivated audiences and is now set to launch its second season.

In an interview, television actor Zaan Khan, known for his role in Kuch Reet Jagat Ki Aisi Bhi, shared an intriguing casting story. Khan revealed that he was approached to audition for the role of Tajdar in Heeramandi but couldn’t attend the audition due to being in London.

Reflecting on the opportunity, Zaan Khan said, “I had done Kyun Uthe Dil Chhod Aaye, which was set in the same era as Heeramandi. My character, Randheer, was a revolutionary with a poetic style.” He further explained that Moin Beg, the writer of Heeramandi, praised his work as Randheer and invited him to test for the role of Tajdar. However, his location prevented him from attending the audition.

Zaan Khan also spoke highly of his peers, mentioning a recent meeting with Taha, the actor who ultimately played Tajdar. “I complimented Taha on his acting and success in Heeramandi. He’s been in the industry for 10 to 15 years, hustling just like me. Working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali must have been an incredible experience, and I hope to have a similar opportunity soon. In shaa Allah!”

Khan also expressed admiration for Fardeen Khan’s return to the screen. “Oh! What do I even say about Fardeen Khan? He is so good-looking and such a star. I am so happy for his grand comeback. When I met him recently, I told him that I’ve been his fan since his movies in the ’90s. He wished me luck, and it felt amazing.”

Khan took pride in the presence of TV actors in Heeramandi. “I was so happy to see Jayati Bhatia ma’am in the project. We worked together in Naamkaran, and I still call her ‘Momma.’ I messaged her, saying, ‘Momma, you did a fabulous job in the show.’ I also witnessed other TV actors in the project and felt elated that TV actors are being considered for such prestigious roles. I’m especially happy for Sanjeeda Shaikh and other TV actors who performed excellently in the series.”

Zaan Khan praised Heeramandi for its powerful themes and execution. “I loved Heeramandi; it is all about woman empowerment. The songs, the writing, the cast, their performances, and the entire ambience of the project were spot on.”

Zaan Khan has a rich portfolio of popular shows, including MTV Splitsvilla, Naamkaran, Hamari Bahu Silk, Maitree, Kuch Reet Jagat Ki Aisi Bhi, and Kyun Uthe Dil Chhod Aaye. His diverse roles and dedication to his craft have made him a notable figure in the television industry.

Stay tuned for more updates as Heeramandi continues to captivate audiences with its compelling storytelling and stellar cast.
